I think everyone has those days, when it sort of hits you, that the app gap is real and it stinks. Compound that with being a Verizon customer, still waiting for Cyan, and news that Sprint is not currently selling any Windows Phones. The news on Windows Central for the past month has been pretty much, well, not very newsworthy.

It's not the websites fault, there just hasn't been much to talk about.I realized this morning, that as Starbucks was introducing yet, another new feature for iPhone customers (order an pre-pay) we still don't have an official app, let alone, signs of getting the same capability as iPhone customers. Yes, I have my Band, so I can awkwardly hold my wrist to scan the car code, but that seems lame compared to the whole pre-pay option. Even though we had NFC and the capability to do mobile payments years before iOS, it never materialized. Verizon customers have zero options for this currently. The truth is, I don't go to Starbucks very often, I prefer Dunkin Donuts, but I want to be able to use the new pre-payment as it rolls out and I won't be able to use it while I am a Windows Phone user.

The reality is that the app gap is real and it is incredibly disheartening to long-time customers. It's not just the missing apps, it's the idea that when something new comes out, we can rarely expecting it anytime within the next year. Our third party app developers are great - like Rudy Huyn, but hamstringed by the companies that control APIs.So, as 2014 comes to a close, I can't help but wonder, are we all just delusional to buy into what Joe Bellfiore is selling?

If we really believe that Microsoft is powerless to influence companies to build apps for us or to put pressure on carriers to deliver firmware updates in a timely fashion, why should we trust that they will ever accomplish those things our that WP will ever be a competing ecosystem? Sure, the phones are awesome, and the 8.1 is great. But, even though I am on the DP program, I am still waiting for Bluetooth and camera upgrades that make my Icon a better device. My 928 performed better in low light and had a usable flash. The Icon is plagued by poor light images and the flash stinks.

Cyan is supposed to improve low light shots, but I don't know for sure since we have yet to see it. The phone is now almost a year old and I am still waiting for the first real camera performance update. Even if I wanted to upgrade in early 2015, what would a Verizon customer pick? The HTC phone or.oh, wait, that is the only phone available to us right now and not even a rumor of a new phone. I can't switch carriers, either. I go to more remote areas where if you don't have VZ, you don't have service.Waiting until Windows 10 is not good enough, any more. If Microsoft is serious about making a go of the mobile market, it's time for it take large gambles.

Give free phones away - and lots of them, give a new WP away with every Xbox One, and give them to Verizon customers. Partner with Verizon to promote WP, similar to what VZ did when they launched the original Droid.

Develop apps for companies for free - and lots of them. Microsoft needs to stop acting like they are a true competitor. If they were, we would get new apps and app movements closer to the same time as the iPhone and Android. Lastly, can Microsoft ever hire people to make adds that appeal to every day users? Not many people need great video when they are on a ski slope or are all that plussed about a trick cyclist in London. Show us more about Cortana, and show it all of the time. I love the Cortana vs.

Siri ads, do more! Show them more!Am about as loyal of a Microsoft customer as they come: I have owned their mobile devices dating back to the Palm Treo (most of you were probably in diapers), owned every generation of the Zune, own a Band, have owned an Xbox 360, even though I am not a gamer, a Surface RT, SP 2, and SP 3. If I don't see Microsoft as viable, who does?Sincerely,Disillusioned. Ello Zune:) I guess this is the reality you have to live with for now. The 'app gap' might completely disappear someday, but that's more of a long term project. I decided to stick with WP, because I don't mind the bumps in the road.

Sure, I get pissed off if another platform gets an app first or if developers actively ignore WP, but at the end of the day, my Lumia works for me and I love it for doing just that. Microsoft and Nokia have my thanks for that as well. However in your case, maybe you should consider switching to IOS:) I'm not telling you to leave; I'm telling you to use IOS as your main platform and WP as your second, until such a time, that you feel you can use WP as your main platform again. Thanks for the non-snarky response (seriously.) I will NEVER switch to iOS, lol. I might have to consider going back to the devil (android), however. I lost it with them when my Nexus tablet was so glitchy it became painful to use.I think we all have those days where we feel like we cannot take it any more.

The trouble is, they are becoming more frequent for me when it comes to WP.I'm curious why many users here are so anti iOS. It seems to be the closest to WP as far as smoothness goes. Is it just some old apple vs MS grudge? I thought we were past that? I don't speak for everyone, but it is first and foremost the apple arrogance the whole acting like they were the first to do (fill in the blank) when they weren't.

If I am brutally honest, I consider Apple to be for people who want to appear to be 'in' and who cannot do anything for themselves from a technology stand point. I find their devices and systems to be illogical, as well. When I have picked up friends I-devices, I am amazed at how not intuitive they are. The whole Steve Jobs image is the exact opposite of anything I want to be associated with. To me it looks like we're getting more official apps.

I think by the end of next year the app gap will be nearly gone and most major developers will be developing for WP. That's how it seems it's going to me.

I could never switched, I've devoted myself to WP too much to switch. Also, I see no reason to switch. WP suits everything I need. Plus, it would be an embarrassment, if I switched, I would never hear the end of it from my friends xD I trash Apple and Android so much, lmao. I'm in the WP race for the long run.

I'm in the WP race for the long run. Let's ride. There are days when that seems true, but in the last week I have across a number that I want, personally. I think everyone would have their own list, but here is a short, off the top of my head list:. Starbucks.

Dunkin Donuts. Applebee's.

Delorme In Reach. SPOT Connect. Software. Photographer's Ephemeris (nothing nearly as good on WP). Timehop (our 3rd party is not as good). Canon photo apps for DSLR control. Most travel related (rental cars, airlines - American, Jet Blue, Southwest).

PNC Bank. Jeep. Official sports teams (Pirates, Steelers, Penguins - you know, the teams that matter.). Plus, local news and niche type apps. Now that Candy Crush is coming my app gap is disappearing. With the last update to IE to support webkit non-standard syntax, now I can do my bank operations and other stuff I was missing.I can't think of an app that I would really like to have on Wp.

In other platforms I miss some of the WP apps.I suspect that for most people the app gap doesn't exist, WP covers well the most common usages. The app gap is mostly a problem for geeks or people with peculiar needs. You are quite right. I think my one brother has only downloaded 1-2 apps, and 1 was a fart app. Second app gap story I've read today. The other had an article with it.Everyone has to decide for themselves what suits them best. It seems to me that most WP users don't really care much about apps, until they want it.

The reason I say that is that I keep hearing people say that apps aren't important or the 'average' person only installs 'x' apps or whatever. If the app gap wasn't important why is WP doing so poorly still? Ignoring the lack of marketing, phones available and other things. What's the hold up if apps are not that important?Thing is, apps are important. Especially those who have friends that they want to connect with. When your friends all have 'x' app and you don't, you're left out. That is the issue that people don't seem to get.

If that's not a concern for you then obviously WP fits you just fine.WP suffers an image problem and the only way to fix it aside from better marketing and a 'WOW factor' phone is getting the apps to remove the excuses. There are other factors as well. You need all the additional features that make it worth switching. Meaning if you have saved games or information on other apps on other platforms you need to be able to access that on WP. There seems to be an issue doing that with some apps on WP.Lastly, I own a Nexus 7 and now recently a Sony Z3. I wasn't planning on going to Android but I couldn't wait any longer for MS to release a phone I wanted.

I'm quite happy and I still own my WP to check out W10 but I'm not really missing WP as much as I thought I would. Second app gap story I've read today. I think the problem is that we expect WP to just rise overnight and dethrone iOS and Android. Well, that's not going to happen. WP8 was suppose to be the savior. Then 8.1 will solve all of the problems and WP will rise.

Now it's WP10 and a unified app ecosystem that will bring users in.The truth is that iOS, Android, WP and BB10 all do the same things (for the most part) almost the same. All have advantages and disadvantages. It's just which OS fits you the best.I think WP just needs to be profitable for now.

Marine Assistant uses the vessel tracking utility known as Automatic Identification System (AIS). You can get information on a boat, yacht, military ships or even fishing ships, from data which is publicly available. You can specifically search for vessels or just carry out a search from within your geolocation.

Just tap on a marker to get more information on that ship/vessel or to track it.For a casual user, such as myself, I would find this handy when a friends or family members may be making a sea trip, I could then track their voyage. For those with a bit more interest, you can read more about the vessel, such as the name of it and even where it has been registered, as well as find out when it was built, its size and much more. I just classed myself as a casual user, but I do live by the coast, and it has been interesting to check out the different vessels and passenger boats that have been going by recently.
